Introduction to Smart Things and Robotics (COMP2064)

Second-year undergraduate module, School of Computer Science. Module convenor and lecturer.

An introduction to the theories and techniques of cyber-physical systems: system architectures and platforms; Internet-of-Things networks, sensors and smart devices; sensor data processing and modelling; real-time automation and control; principles of cyber security, safety and hazard analysis. Applications include Industry 4.0, healthcare, assistive robots, autonomous vehicles and smart homes, and students gain hands-on experience integrating IoT sensors and actuators in demonstrator applications.

Clermont Auvergne INP (SIGMA Clermont), 2021–2023

Graduate courses in the mechanics and robotics specialisation, taught in English.

Machine Learning

The main concepts and widely used techniques of machine learning: linear regression, supervised and unsupervised learning, deep and convolutional neural networks. Seven lectures and seven tutorials in Python (pandas, scikit-learn, PyTorch).

Reinforcement Learning for Robotics

Policy gradient, actor-critic methods, Q-learning and DQN. Six lectures, six tutorials and two lab sessions with ROS, Gazebo and OpenAI Gym.

Cyber-Physical Systems

Communication tools in integrated design: cognition, virtual and augmented reality, and digitisation, through 3D modelling and Unity.

Real-Time Systems

C++ and object-oriented programming, multitasking and synchronisation. Three lectures, four tutorials and three lab sessions.

Also taught: Integrated Design and Virtual Reality.
